Sainsbury’s shoppers joined a mass dance off to raise money for Comic Relief yesterday.

Children, parents and passers-by participated in John Johnny Entertainment’s four hour dance marathon in Marlow’s Sainsbury’s, in West Street.

With Zippy and a minion holding collections buckets as shoppers passed the temporary stage at the rear of the store, the full total of the day’s takings is still being counted.

Janette Thatcher, the store’s commercial team leader, contacted John Johnny following the success of last year’s hugely successful flashmob, which attracted hundreds of people and raised thousands for Sport Relief.

Ms Thatcher said: “This year I contacted Johnny to see if we could arrange something else and we thought maybe a dance off this time. We raised nearly £3,000 last year so we’re hoping to beat it.”

Staff at the store and volunteers have been raising money for days leading up to the dance off.

On Friday evening, a five-a-side football tournament was held at John Hampden Grammar School and staff participated in Sainsbury’s regional charity Bake Off earlier this month.
