Golfers in Marlow are being urged dust off their clubs and get practising for the return of an annual favourite in the town’s sporting calendar.

The Mayor’s Golf Day sees keen golfer Suzanne Brown take on all comers at the Harleyford Course on April 21, with previous guests including Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave.

Cllr Brown is urging teams to register for the charity fundraiser, with the top squad taking away the coveted Mayor’s Cup, won last year by Scorpio electrics.

But the former ladies captain at Hennerton Golf Club in Wargrave said her duties as mayor have taken their toll on her practice sessions

She said: “I need to get some practice in as I’ve not played in over a year, I’ve just been too busy. But I will try my best.

“I don’t get to play enough but I’m looking forward to playing more once I finish as mayor.

“It’s a great event and hopefully we’ll get good weather as I read we are going to have a heatwave.”

Prizes are also available for best individual male, female and a closest to the pin challenge.

As well as 18 holes on the top Marlow course, the event also includes a three course dinner, prize giving and auction in the clubhouse afterwards.

A series of packages are also available for businesses to sponsor the day, which raises money for Cllr Brown’s nominated charities Marlow Opportunity Playgroup and Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

It will be the mayor’s second golf day since taking on the ceremonial role in 2013.
