A crackdown on speeding begins this week in the Marlow area, with a series of enforcement operations over the next few weeks.

Neighbourhood police in Marlow have confirmed they will prioritise the problem of speeding motoroists this spring, on roads both in town and more rural spots.

Though a Community Speedwatch scheme in the area is thriving, Marlow’s top policeman Inspector Scott Messenger said they are putting a fresh emphasis on penalising drivers to get the message across.

And although he would not confirm which areas would receive a visit from officers armed with speed guns, he said they could pop up anywhere.

Insp Messenger said: “Speed enforcement is happening now and will last for the next few weeks.

“We try and do it as regularly as we can and in conjunction with Speedwatch, which is about education. But it’s more about enforcement at the moment.

“Speeding never goes away, I could every one of my officers out ad infinitum and people will still speed.

“You tend to find in locations where someone has been caught or where they’ve seen a speed camera they tend to be careful for a week or two, and then revert to type.

“That’s why we try to move the locations around as much as we can, as then go back after a certain period.”

A previous crackdown by Marlow officers saw 65 drivers issued with tickets in one morning alone.

And one motorist was clocked at 57mph near a Marlow Infant School, labelled "outrageous" by Sgt. Robin Hughes, who is coordinating the operation.
