STAFF are being encouraged to get closer to their bosses by giving them a hug this month.
National Hug Your Boss Day, which will take place on the 21st August, aims to “ to remind all us that we are all human beings on the inside”.
Claire Prosser, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce policy executive, said: “For a bit of fun and camaraderie we would back an engaging and supportive atmosphere in the office and once a year it's important to take a softer side of company life.
“It's important to remember that whilst there are increasingly more people home working most of us still have people working under or above them day to day.
"It's good to take a lighter approach from time to time.”
Annie Mullady runs Mullady Solutions in Marlow which deals with leadership training.
She said: “I'm all for businesses and managers being seen as human beings but I think it's the way they manage their staff 365 days a year, rather than one day.
“I think there are more constructive ways of improving a relationship but if it works then fantastic.”
She added: “I'm self employed so I can only hug myself.”
Cecilia Lee, office manager at FSP Retail in Hughenden Avenue, High Wycombe, said: “I think it's a good idea and improves efficiency and productivity.
“It helps both parties understand each other more and to be more friendly and open.”
Will you be hugging your boss?
