Marlow's 'Wacky Racers' set off for Zurich

A QUARTET from Marlow have set off on a 1,800-mile drive in a souped up “old banger”.

The 'Wacky Racers' will try to drive from High Wycombe to Zurich and back within 72 hours as part of the Urban All Star Rally.

Jodie Hall, 21, was joined by 22-year-olds Gregg Feely, Andy Roy and Evan Howells in a 1993 BMW with a lightning bolt on the bonnet.

Miss Hall, an instructor at Marlow Sea Cadets, said: “We paid £200 for the car and I just hope it doesn't give up on us.

"We've spray painted it with a lightning bolt to make it go faster.

“Two of the guys have backed out of sleeping in the car overnight but I'm still going to.”

The team are dressed as Wacky Racers cartoon characters during the rally - including Penelope Pitstop, Dick Dastardly and Muttley.

They set off yesterday morning and to drive down through Belgium, Germany and across the Alps before reaching Zurich.

They have raised around £1,000 so far for their chosen charities - Marlow Sea Cadets, The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Marlow Opportunity Playgroup and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

There are nine teams from around south Buckinghamshire taking part, which is organised by the High Wycombe-based company UrbanMedia.

Driving all the way to Zurich and back in a 1993 BMW.
Think of all those wonderful fumes and emissions.
Surely there are better ways of raising a couple of thousand quid for charity? Not so much fun though.
I know I'll be accused of being a killjoy and wrong for critisising the "good deeds" of others, but this isn't a clever idea considering how we are being told that we must cut emissions. Douing things for charity isn't a good enough reason/excuse.

Great news! Young people eager to do something for charity. You won't find any of the community cohesion crowd doing this sort of thing!

Hot air doesn't harm the environment! Petrol/diesel fumes from 9 "old bangers" do.
Oh, you're from Marlow.
If I organised a charity event in Marlow where young people were sponsored to do a mass pee in the river during the regatta, I am sure you would not be so snide.

lol 678 is the patron saint of Marlow.

My take on it ... good for them. Anyone who puts themselves out for charity - even if they are from Marlow ( that was a joke btw) deserves a pat on the back.
