A QUARTET from Marlow have set off on a 1,800-mile drive in a souped up “old banger”.

The 'Wacky Racers' will try to drive from High Wycombe to Zurich and back within 72 hours as part of the Urban All Star Rally.

Jodie Hall, 21, was joined by 22-year-olds Gregg Feely, Andy Roy and Evan Howells in a 1993 BMW with a lightning bolt on the bonnet.

Miss Hall, an instructor at Marlow Sea Cadets, said: “We paid £200 for the car and I just hope it doesn't give up on us.

"We've spray painted it with a lightning bolt to make it go faster.

“Two of the guys have backed out of sleeping in the car overnight but I'm still going to.”

The team are dressed as Wacky Racers cartoon characters during the rally - including Penelope Pitstop, Dick Dastardly and Muttley.

They set off yesterday morning and to drive down through Belgium, Germany and across the Alps before reaching Zurich.

They have raised around £1,000 so far for their chosen charities - Marlow Sea Cadets, The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Marlow Opportunity Playgroup and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

There are nine teams from around south Buckinghamshire taking part, which is organised by the High Wycombe-based company UrbanMedia.
