OLYMPIC hero Sir Steve Redgrave praised Rotarians for their work at an event aimed at raising awareness about the movement.

The five-time gold medal winning rower was the guest speaker at the Rotary Showcase jointly hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Marlow and Marlow Thames last Thursday night.

The event, which featured informative stalls manned by Rotarians, was organised to raise awareness and change the perceived 'stuffy attitude' perceptions of rotary.

And members from both clubs hailed the event as a great success, as dozens of intrigued residents flocked through the Liston Hall doors.

Lance Slater from the Rotary Club of Marlow said: “It was a great success.

“The purpose wasn't necessarily to develop membership but to show guests the work we do and explain what the money we raise is used for.

“Sir Steve Redgrave spoke about his love for, and life in, Marlow – he is a very good speaker and he is very support of the work the rotary carries out.”

Lisa Morris who won a Rotary Scholarship, also entertained the audience with tales of her time in Africa where she worked on various aid projects.

Since her return she has become a Rotarian and emphasised the Showcase motto of ‘Having Fun and Helping Others'.
