A CHEF from Missenden Abbey has reached the finals of a national competition.

Bartosz Kowalczyk, chef de partie at Missenden Abbey Conference Centre in Great Missenden is among 12 finalists in the Conference Centres of Excellence Chefs’ Challenge competition.

It takes place tomorrow at Stratford-upon-Avon, where the chef will put his culinary skills to the test in a cook-off against 11 other chefs.

It will be followed by an awards dinner at Woodland Grange conference venue in Leamington Spa.

The winner will receive a certificate and one-year’s membership of the British Culinary Federation.

Missenden Abbey is a partner of Bucks New University.

Eva Neupauer-Jones, general manager at the Abbey, said: “This is groundbreaking for Missenden Abbey and we’re so delighted to make it this far.

“Bartosz was chosen on the strength of a menu contestants submitted, so the criteria were tough.

“It’s the first time we’ve entered and it’s fantastic for Bartosz to be recognised as among the top chefs in our field. Fingers crossed for a good result tomorrow.”
