'Great British Bake Off' star Glenn Cosby based on his cookery tips as visitors ate, drank and were merry at the Great Missenden Food Festival.

Apart from the food, Mr Cosby was the main attraction at this year's event, which ran for four days over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

He demonstrated how to make a chocolate meringue cake during live baking demonstrations on Easter Sunday and Monday to the many hundreds of people who attended the popular annual festival.

Mr Cosby, a star of series four of the cult BBC baking show, also regaled the audience with tales from behind the other side of the camera during his time on Bake Off.

He admitted to being scared of the show's judge Paul Hollywood, saying his recipe for bread in the Bake Off audition said, 'Do not deviate from the recipe by one gram or one millilitre'.

Mr Cosby, a former teacher from Devon, said however he 'wouldn't have a word said against' fellow judge Mary Berry. He referred to the Penn resident as 'St Mary of Berry' while crossing himself throughout his cooking demonstrations.

Visitors to the show, which was held in Buryfield, were able to sample the goods from dozens of food and drink producers. Jerk chicken, South African street food and 'fish dogs' were all available to eat, as were the more traditional fare of sausages, pies and pints.

Many of the producers showing off their food and drink were from the county but others had travelled to Great Missenden had travelled from further afield.

Tracy Mackness, owner of the Giggly Pig sausage company from Romford, said: "It's been a really lovely show. We really look forward to coming here every year and seeing all of our lovely customers.

"There's a good atmosphere here. You get the same people who come here every year, who look forward to it. We've been coming for six years - it's such a good show."

Tom Ley, owner of the Aylesbury-based Yokel Yoghurt company, said: "We've enjoyed the show, very much so. The feedback has been very positive and the show has been absolutely heaving every day."
