Costa Coffee has unveiled plans to open a branch in Great Missenden - next door to another coffee shop.

The multinational company plans to move in to a vacant business premises in High Street.

But the shop is right next door to the Coffee Approach store, which has been in the centre of the village for two years.

Costa do not need to apply for a change of use for the building as the firm would be taking over occupancy from the former Ho Ho Chinese restaurant, which ceased operating earlier this year.

However they have had to submit plans to Chiltern District Council to put up four signs with the company's insignia inside and outside the building before they can move in.

Members of Great Missenden Parish Council have formally registered their objections to the district council about one of the signs, which is illuminated and will be outside the shop. Parish councillors say the amount of light generated would disturb neighbours.

Planning chiefs at Chiltern District Council are set to make a decision on whether to grant permission for the signs next month. If given approval it would pave the way for Costa to move in to the village.
