Supermarket chain Waitrose has said it is looking to move into Prestwood or Great Missenden - but has denied it will be taking over a Co-Op store.
The firm confirmed this week it is actively seeking to open a branch in either village.
Speculation in Great Missenden has mounted in recent weeks that Waitrose will take over the running of the Co-Op store in Station Approach.
But company spokesman James Armstrong said: "While we would like to have a shop in the area one day, this [the speculation] is not true."
As well as the Co-Op, Prestwood saw the opening of a branch of Sainsbury's last year.
