6:00pm Tuesday 7th February 2012 in Prestwood & Great Missenden By Neil Phillips
A CHARITY is making a desperate appeal for bunk beds in order to stage an annual night camp event for children who cannot go out in daylight.
On Friday the Prestwood based XP Support Group will run its 11th Owl Patrol night time camp for children with Xeroderma Pigmentosum - a life-threatening condition that makes them hypersensitive to Ultraviolet light and 1,000 times more likely to develop skin cancer than the normal population.
Children with XP cannot go outside during daylight hours without protective clothing that includes face mask, gloves, long sleeves and long trousers all year round.
The Owl Patrol event welcomes children from across the UK and abroad, allowing the youngsters to enjoy a range of games and activities – both outdoors at night and inside during daylight hours.
The charity has today heard that the hired bunk beds it arranged last year will not be delivered, meaning there are not enough for the children and families coming.
The organisation needs 18 set of beds to cater for all those attending.
If anyone can help with the loan or supply of these beds, please call Sandra Webb on 07786-392192
