A SMALL charity, which continues to grow, has featured on an ITV programme which helps rehome pets.

The new series called Auf Wiedersehen My Pet started on March 17 and follows the plight of pet owners who are forced to find new homes for their much-loved animals.

Rebecca Evans from Princes Risborough set up Horses for Homes last year to help rehome horses safely and responsibly.

It was awarded full charity status in June last year and Rebecca has featured on the ITV show once and again tomorrow, advising owners on rehoming their horse.

Rebecca, 38, said: "It was a lot of work- very time consuming. There was a lot of filming.

"But it is such an incredible opportunity for such a small, new charity to get such exposure to raise awareness of rehoming horses safely.

"They are not like cats and dogs- they are incredibly expensive to look after and they are all so different."

The charity has an online database where horse owners can list their horses for transfer of ownership, loans and part loans.

Potential new owners have to go through many checks, including a CRB, verification of bank details and addresses, a home check and references followed up.

Rebecca said: "The way it works is through a website and owners keep their horses at home.

"It is a bit like a dating agency- we find the horses appropriate and suitable new owners."

There is no cost to the owner, but they do not get any money for their horse. New owners are asked to donate to the charity.

The site currently has more than 250 horses.

Rebecca, who worked for The Horse Trust in Speen, said: "We have grown a lot quicker than what we expected. The demand on out services is absolutely huge."

Tracey Betteridge from Chiltern Lamb in Skirmett also featured on the TV series, which is on daily from 2 to 3pm.

She helped rehome twin pygmy goats Billy and Tilly.
