AN art teacher from Princes Risborough currently has his work displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts’ summer exhibition.

Head of art at Princes Risborough School, Michael Carberry, was delighted when his sculpture was chosen to be displayed.

He was one of the artists chosen from 12,500 when he sent in an application in January with some digital images.

The 50-year-old said: "I wanted to prove to the students that we don’t live in a cupboard. We actually do other things. We are not just teachers but practising artists too."

He uses the summer holidays and weekends to carry out his art work.

In 2010, he undertook a two month prestigious residency at Cove Park, Scotland and this year he will be participating in the Shetland Arts Residency.

He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1996, and mainly focuses on jewellery now.

The sculpture in the exhibition at the Burlington Gardens site in London was a collaboration with a blacksmith called Richard Green from Haddenham.

The exhibition runs until August 17.
