Ricky Gervais has taken to Twitter to show his support for a Saunderton charity.

The animal-loving actor appealed to his 6.8 million followers to help raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People by taking part in their Great British Dog Walk.

The Great British Dog Walk is taking place at ten locations across the UK, including  the Ashridge Estate in the Chiltern Hills.

The event at the Ashridge Estate offers dog-lovers a chance to take part in a 3km or an 8km walk on May 17 to raise vital funds for the Hearing Dogs charity.

The walk, through woodland, along tranquil bridlepaths and across the breathtaking Chiltern hills, costs £10 to take part.

Ricky is a keen animal lover and animal rights activist, having campaigned against bullfighting and was named PETA's Person of the Year for his work.

Robert Marsh, from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: “We’re delighted that Ricky has tweeted something about our Great British Dog Walk. This is a new event and the great thing about it is that everyone can take part in it.

"We’re really, really pleased that Ricky tweeted about it because not only does it raise awareness of the event, but also the service that Hearing Dogs for Deaf People provide.”

The Great British Dog Walk aims to raise vital funds for the charity, based in Wycombe Road, who train hearing puppies for deaf people.
