A primary school in Lacey Green is celebrating after receiving recognition from the Minister of State for Schools for their key stage two test results.

Headteacher of St John’s C of E combined school, Gill Grimsey, told of her surprise at receiving a letter of congratulations from Rt Hon David Laws MP, the Minister of State for Schools.

The letter informed Mrs Grimsey that the school, in Main Road, was in the top 150 primary schools in the country after pupils achieved outstanding key stage two national test results last year.

100 per cent of year six pupils last year achieved level 4B or above in reading and maths and level 4 or above in writing.

Mrs Grimsey said: “I was really surprised when I opened the letter. This is a fantastic achievement by the whole school. I’m absolutely so proud, it’s nice to have that recognition for all the hard work, from our students as well as our staff and governors.

“To be in the top 150 primary schools, when there are thousands in the country is really quite something. The children who took the exams have left now, but it’s an achievement for the whole school.”

In the letter, David Laws MP said: “I would like to congratulate your staff, governors and pupuls for their hard work and success and thank you for your leadership in continuing the drive towards high standards of educational achievement.”

Mrs Grimsey, who has been head teacher at the school for four years, said: “This is the first time anything like this has happened since I’ve been here, so it is a massive achievement.

“I think every head teacher would love to achieve something like this every year. Every year group is different but the children always work incredibly hard, so you never know.”
