A school in Lacey Green has raised vital funds for charity after creating a carpet of coins.

St John’s CE Combined School attempted to fill the entire school hall with coins brought in by pupils, in the hope of raising cash for Cancer Research UK.

The organisation was Key Stage Two’s chosen charity.

The challenge also provided the students with a good opportunity to practice their maths skills, as they counted the coins throughout the day.

Before the challenge begun, it was estimated that each child would need to bring in 80 coins each to fill the school hall.

The event was suggested at the Pupil Council, which is run entirely by pupils.

One pupil, Gabriela Watman, brought in coins that were raised by her 13-year-old brother Billy, a talented musician who busked at the Edinburgh Festival.

Billy will be playing at the re-opening of Chinnor Village Hall on Saturday.
