A Princes Risborough residents group have stepped up their mission to raise awareness of the impact of the local plan with a powerful poster campaign.

The Risborough Area Residents Association (RARA), which was founded in 1988 and currently has 536 members, has launched a brand new poster campaign to raise awareness of the impact that a potential 2,500 homes could have on the town.

The #StandUpForRisborough campaign has marked the start of drive to get more residents in Risborough and the surrounding villages involved in the fight against Wycombe District Council’s local plan, with powerful posters going up around town.

The campaign started on February 24 and within the first 24 hours, the campaign received 2,500 unique views on Facebook, with that number rising to more than 3,600 by the end of the second day.

Local retailers, including K&B Family Butchers in High Street, have shown their support for the campaign by displaying the colourful posters in their shop windows.

Ian Churchill, RARA’s new chairman since November 2014, said the campaign has been “well received.”

He said: “RARA supports the need for more new homes. That’s an important point I’d like to make up front. We all want to live in a vibrant and prosperous town, but it’s important that growth happens in a sustainable and appropriate way, and that the local community is given a real opportunity to help shape what our future will look like.

“RARA’s #StandUpForRisborough campaign is about raising awareness. Our posters are designed to get people thinking about the long term impact that WDC’s plans will have on our community.”

Mr Churchill says that RARA recognises the need for Risborough to take its “fair share” of housing, but believes that 2,500 new homes are not in the best interests of the town.

Instead, RARA believes that 600 new homes, including around 300 which are already in the pipeline, over the next 15 years would preserve the character of the town.
