A YEW tree which was removed to make way for affordable homes was replaced yesterday in Princes Risborough.
The eight metre high tree has been replanted at Icknield Court, Wycombe Road in front of 22 new flats and houses which will be finished in the spring.
The homes, which will be called Rectory Court, were built by Housing Solutions and include 14 flats for affordable rent and eight houses for sale as part of a shared ownership scheme.
Wycombe District Council’s cabinet member for homes and housing Chris Watson joined John Petitt, chief executive of Housing Solutions, town councillor Ben Benifer and mayor Alan Turner to help plant the tree.
Cllr Turner said: “It is a nice development and what the town needs. There is a shortage of affordable housing.
“What we need to do next is to push for a preference for houses to be given to local families.
“It is great they have replanted the yew tree as it is one of the things we looked at when the original planning application came into place.”
The tree, which is around 40-years-old, was kept in storage while the development was built. Most of the trees on the site were preserved.
