Concerns raised over delivery office development plans in Princes Risborough

CONCERNS have been raised about a planning application to convert the former Princes Risborough delivery office into flats.

At last night's Princes Risborough Town Council meeting Cllr Will Streule said the development could change the commercial aspect of this part of the town.

Applicant W.E.Black Ltd has applied to demolish the existing buildings, which was closed and put up for sale by Royal Mail, and build one block comprising of six one bed flats and six two bed flats with associated parking, bin and cycle stores.

Cllr Will Streule said: "Personally I don't think it is very well thought out. I am not opposed to the development of the building. If it is going to sold then fair enough."

But he said that Bell Street is quite a commercial part of the town and he would like to see a development of mixed use- commercial and residential.

Chairman Gary Hall agreed and said: "I think this is a step a little bit in one direction too far, too quickly."

All councillors present agreed for Cllr Streule to send a letter of objection against the change of use to Wycombe District Council.

Today is the last day comments can be made on the application. See link below.

"Bell Street is quite a commercial part of the town".
.
What rubbish. It used to be. However, the old school was turned into houses and flats. The cinema was turned into flats. The hairdressers next to the sorting office was .... turned into flats. There was redman's old shop next to the Bell PH. This was demolished and turned into housing. The British Legion Hall has been taken over by the happy clappies. The two shops next to that are now a restaurant and a private dwelling. The only real commercial part of Bell Street is the short stretch on one side of the road between the petrol station and the top of the high Street.
.
This is (almost) the last commercial property - except for the The Bell pub, on that side of the street! The remainder has all been converted to housing and will never be brought back to being commerial.
.
Strange that there was little or no opposition in previous years when all the commercial buildings were knocked down and/or converted. Now Cllr Streule starts making a point when the last commercial building on that side of the road (excluding a pub and a restaurant) looks like it is going to be demolished and ... turned into flats.
.
Too little, too late Councillor.

I thought it said in another story this building was already sold?

That's typical of Risborough town council, to little to late.
The are to busy wasting our council tax money and planning there own new Civic Community Centre, which the town can't afford and don't want.
