There is paws for celebration at Stokencurch Dog Rescue as they appoint their first ever CEO.

Michelle Vickers, from Maidenhead, took on the role of chief executive officer at the beginning of the month.

She has worked in the not-for-profit charity sector for 14 years, as head of executive office at Sport England and then as operations manager of Kick it Out, the charity which aims to tackle discrimination in football. She was also client manager at Bisham Abbey and was the 2012 Olympic legacy venues manager.

Michelle, who has adopted six rescue dogs in the last 30 years, said: "Heading up this wonderful local charity, with the support of the trustees, staff and amazing volunteers is a challenge I’m really looking forward to.

"Stokenchurch Dog Rescue is a small charity achieving big things, having saved thousands of dogs' lives in its 51 year history."

Michelle is married with two children and has two dogs, both of whom were rescued.

She said: "Giving a home to a rescue dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. My dogs are part of our family and bring us so much joy. "

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue, in Oxford Road, relies on grants, legacies and local fundraising to keep looking after abandoned dogs until they are adopted or fostered.
