Stokenchurch parish council meeting full with concerned residents

The packed meeting The packed meeting

A STOKENCHURCH parish council meeting set to discuss travellers was so full last night that people had to be turned away.

More than 100 residents went to hear what Wycombe District Council's head of planning Jerry Unsworth had to say about the proposed gypsy sites in the village.

The government has demanded councils find gypsy sites in their area and a public consultation into the proposed sites began in December.

A permanent site is proposed at Dry Banks opposite Kiln Farm, Oxford Road for a medium to large site which could have up to 15 pitches and the storage site on Oxford Road opposite.

Tempers were kept under control as acting chairman Malcolm Penny said “We will not tolerate any inflammatory language or unruly behaviour.”

Mr Unsworth said WDC needed to identify sites to meet needs in the local area and were advised from a regional level what numbers they needed to provide.

He added: “Finding suitable sites is quite a challenge.”

There is already a three pitch site at Five Oaks Farm, Studley Green which has been there since 1986 and which Mr Unsworth said the council now need to review as it is illegal.

Villagers raised concerns about any more sites ruining the idyll of the village and said there was no room for any more children at the school which is already oversubscribed or at the medical surgery.

Jack Curtis, who owns the land at each of the sites, said he did not want to sell the land to the council but would be happy to run a private travellers' site by invitation only.

Mr Unsworth later said in the meeting: “The council has got to stand back and make as good a judgement as it can. The council may have to think again.

“If the council doesn't deal with this it loses control so to speak. There is nothing we are trying to hide.”

The consultation period ends on January 29. Go to www.wycombe.gov.uk to have your say.

What this piece doesn't say is that we were told that we have to provide spaces at schools for travellers at the expense of other kids even though those local schools are already full. So what they mean is that travellers who just turn up uninvited are to get preferential treatment over people who have lived and contributed in local communities for many years. Isn't that discrimination?

.

Never mind bl**dy gritters and filthy unused outdoor swimming pools, this is where your local taxes are going.

Welcome to the delights of working with WDC
At least Stokenchurch has a parish council to speak out for its rights.
High Wycombe town has no parish or town council to protect it from WDC Tory Councillor arrogance and disregard of local opinion!!

Remember that WDC are being forced to act in this way by the Labour government.

Don't you just hate politics!

Yes but if the local councils or parish councils really cared about their constituents, they would 'grow some' and tell New Labour to stick it.

Oh....I forgot. To become a politician (even a minor local one) you automatically lose them during the spine removal procedure and can't get them back can you?

"Mr Unsworth said WDC needed to identify sites to meet needs in the local area and were advised from a regional level "

Regional Government was voted against, why are they listening to a regional level.

I think that this may even by an EU requirement, not just an imposition by the central government, but feel free to correct me.
There must be somewhere that can be used, that's not a blot on the landscape or in a village where locals will object.

Regional government might have been rejected but there's the South-East England Regional Assembly (SEERA), and the Government Office for the South East (Go-Se). Big Government is here...

Kebabman,
I think 'racism' is the term used by travellers when people object to their often unruly behaviour, notwithstanding the racial abuse they give asian and black people. I've witnessed it.

I feel for the people of Stokenchurch
A WDC run consultation period. Thats a joke
I bet they take no notice of anything the locals have to say.
My advise to you is do your research on this lot down at the council for they're sure not to be telling you the truth

Number 1, as you say in your own words, people have a right to an opinion. Except, you think, when you come along pathetically playing the racist card.
Number 2, having your caps lock on doesnt make your point more valid. It just looks like you are shouting.
Number 3, being as judgemental as you obviously are, you wont care that I do masses of voluntary work already. Yet I still dont want the unfairness and injustice of discrimination in favour of travellers.

You obviously do.

I wonder why?

I urge the good people of Stokenchurch to get onto the WDC website plough through minutes of cabinet meeting etc. Use the freedom of information act to obtain minutes of steering committees and sub committees that have been looking at this issue.
Because this lot down at the council can not be trusted. You can often find contradictions in the minutes of these meetings to things that they have said to you at public meetings etc. Remember information is power in these situations!

show some love then Mr. Healy and invite them around to yours to stay and see how long it is before your "love thy neighbour" theory loses it's appeal.
