DRAGON boats will be furiously paddled along Eton Dorney Lake during the Rotary Club of High Wycombe’s second annual race day.

Rotarians are appealing for teams to sign up for the Dragon Boat Challenge on June 29, which this year will raise money for The Lily Foundation and Kids in Sport charities.

The summer event will also feature refreshments, fun stalls and children’s games along the banks of the lake throughout the day.

Last summer’s inaugural event raised £20,000 for charities, was attended by 2000 spectators and featured 36 teams battling it out for the title, which was taken by the Lightfoot Pioneers from Lightfoot Solutions.

President of the club, Humphrey Creed, said: “We had a great sunny day last year, it was a fantastic occasion and I’m sure this year’s event will be an equally marvellous occasion.

“It’s great for team building, for young and old people, we had a team of ladies from the Inner Wheel Club last year who all had a great time – you don’t need any knowledge of rowing, just come down and have a go.”

Crews must comprise of between eight and ten oarsmen plus a drummer.

Entry is £495 per crew and each boat must raise a minimum of £250 in donations to the rotary’s charities.

Anything raised over that mark can be given to a charity of the crew’s choice.
