AN online campaign has been set up by a group of Wycombe Wanderers supporters to rally against the prospect of a new stadium in Booker.

‘No to Booker’ describes itself as “a campaign against the rehoming of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club” (see link below).

Matt Clarke, a season ticket holder who is heading up the group, said it currently represents nearly 50 fans.

He said: “I've been supporting the club for 30 years and go to games with my son and my dad. We've become more and more concerned about the direction of the club.”

He believes there is a lack of detail about the plans, which leaves “so may questions unanswered just to throw my backing behind it”.

Mr Clarke, who works in the property market, is worried that Wanderers will lose out in the move, as the club would lose ownership of its ground if Adams Park was sold.

He is also concerned the team would not draw crowds big enough to fill a stadium with a capacity of up to 20,000.

The campaign group will be distributing leaflets near Adams Park, on Hillbottom Road, on Saturday afternoon, when Wycombe Wanderers plays Lincoln.

Wanderers and Wasps have announced that Wycombe Air Park in Booker is their preferred site for a new stadium, though Wycombe District Council is currently consulting on the planning options (see link below).

The council has put Adams Park, Wycombe Air Park and Abbey Barn South Area on a short-list.

Meanwhile, Booker Common and Woods Protection Society has spoken out against the plan for a stadium in Booker, calling it a “white elephant”.

But, Wycombe Hockey Club has come out in favour, saying it is an “exciting opportunity” for the club and its members.

Buckinghamshire New University has also spoken in favour of the 'Booker bid'.

Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Chris Kemp said the university would back the bid in whatever form the clubs think it should be.
