2:15pm Tuesday 31st January 2012 in Wycombe district By Simon Farr
A COUNCIL has apologised to motorists for a delay in settling appeals to parking fines – blaming a staff shortage for the hold-up.
Motorists told the Free Press they were still awaiting the verdict to appeals they submitted to Wycombe District Council weeks ago.
The authority said this was due to a downsizing in the parking services team following the transfer of on-street parking enforcement to Buckinghamshire County Council in September.
WDC said all appeals received during the transfer to County Hall were put on hold - at no extra charge to the motorist – and apologised for the wait.
Catherine Spalton, spokesman for WDC, said: “Last September we stopped enforcing on street parking regulations, which also meant that our parking services team reduced in size.
“All penalty charge notices issued up to that point for both on and off street parking still had to be processed by our reduced parking services team, which in some instances lead to a delay in responding to any appeals.
“The appeals received at that time were put on hold until an investigation could take place and a response issued; anyone appealing a penalty during that time did not incur any extra charge as a result.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.”
She added the council is now able to respond to off-street parking appeals within two or three working days, subject to the complexity of any investigation.

Thats more than the HMRC have done! They are on strike about something (yet again) whilst the private sector who generate the money that actually props this country up and to pay the salaries and the over endowed pensions for the likes of these, have to wait even longer than usual for the re-imbursement of any over paid tax that has been stolen from them!! Its just a joke!

If you are someone who has not been on strike then fair play but the fact that the unions and their members even contemplate holding the country to ransom just because you want something only yourselves will benefit from whilst the private sector has to put up with failing pension schemes but have no say in it whilst the public sector expects everyone else to put their hand in their pocket for them! Its a joke! We're not all in this together, you expect the government to subsidise your loss, whilst I have to just bend over and take it! Yes you pay taxes but you expect that bit more out of them!!

Me so lucky working for the council and paying no taxes and getting gold plated pension me don't pay for ...
Hold on a moment . . .
What's that you say?
I have to pay taxes too just like anyone else? And I pay my own pension contributions?!? Cor luvaduck! Who'd have thought that?
Can't we just be friends and stop bashing ordinary working people who happen to work in the public sector?
We don't expect any special consideration you know, just some basic recognition that we're no better (or worse) off in the public sector than elsewhere.
And sorry if I can't accept your joke in good humour but after the year of viscious public sector baiting we've endured at the hands of the ConDems and the Daily Mail (and some posters on this site) it just stops being funny after a while.
