Hughenden Valley beautician fundraising in memory of her mum

A MUM of four whose mother died of bowel cancer on her fifth birthday is raising money for charity.

Sue Brooks from Hughenden Valley is running two events to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.

Her mum, Margaret Brooks, died of bowel cancer aged 36 when Sue was just five, after three years of fighting the illness. Now every year, the 41-year-old tries to do something to raise money for cancer research and this year she chose the cause close to her heart.

She said: "Growing up without a mum feels like a part of you is missing. When you have children you want a mother for advice and support. I hope in some way she is with me and is proud of her three children and eleven grandchildren that she never got to meet."

Margaret was one of five children and since her death two of her brothers have also died from cancer.

Sue, who has run the Nail and Beauty Box salon for the last three years, will donate 10 per cent of all CACI treatments, which are non-surgical solutions, and £5 from all bio-gel nails booked from February 1 for two weeks to Bowel Cancer UK.

On February 10 from 5-7pm at the launch of CACI ultimate non surgical solutions at Allure Boutique, 5, Turners Place, Holmer Green Sue will donate 10 per cent from all CACI treatments on that day.

Sue said: "The more money we raise the more money can go into research and help this disease."

When her mum died, her dad, Sue and her two siblings moved from Kent to London to be closer to family.

Sue, who has four sons; Jack, 23, Lee, 21, Kane, 18 and Callum, 11, has lived in the High Wycombe area for the last 20 years as does her dad, Roy Brooks, 73.

She added: "I am very close to my dad and he is fantastic. He is very supportive of me and absolutely adores my four children."

sad situation, bad press, i too lost my dad to bowel cancer in 2000 he was aged 60. farmed all his life, the last 2 years of his life the doctor was treating him for chronicle indegestion, until my dad was doubled over with pain then he went into hospital for exploratory surgery, every year i do an army assault course to raise money for cancer charities, as my younger brother is a Captain in the Royal Artillery, so use his contacts for the charity event, but in no way do i use this situation to promote my business,...sorry but this report is gross..........

Regardless of whether this is advertising or not, the woman is doing something worthwhile for a cancer charity; most people will have lost somebody to cancer and sadly I have lost many older members of my family to this awful disease. I gladly give my £2 a month donation and applaud anybody willing to give up some of their earnings, so well done Sue Brooks!

It seems a shame that some people are very quick to critisize on this site rather than look at the positives that are being done when raising funds for charity. Not only is this lady raising funds but also awareness. I think its a fantastic idea that a local company is backing a charity. I've seen her adverts in our local paper and also her leaflets.
Well done Sue, its a shame that more companies don't do the same!!!
