Public to be consulted over potential changes to bus lane

Public to be consulted over potential changes to Wycombe bus lane Public to be consulted over potential changes to Wycombe bus lane

TRANSPORT chiefs will consult the public over potential modifications to the High Wycombe bus lane.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Transportation Cllr Peter Hardy confirmed the authority had investigated the A40 scheme and have come up with a number of ideas to change the way it operates.

These ideas will be showcased during a public exhibition in March.

County transport bosses will also speak to Thames Valley Police this week in a bid to agree on the enforcement of the bus lane, which heads westbound from Loudwater into High Wycombe town centre.

It follows an exposé by the Free Press, which revealed just 34 motorists have been ticketed in 12 years for flouting the bus lane regulations.

But the BFP counted 189 motorists blatantly breaking the rules during two one hour periods at the section of the A40 opposite Mr India and Domino’s (see link).

The council said enforcement of the lane was a job for the police but TVP hit back by saying it was the responsibility of all the authorities.

The bus lane debate has split opinion among residents, with some believing the scheme helps to ease congestion while others say it is dangerous.

It is dangerous, pointless and unenforceable. Get rid of it.

That is all....

couldn't agree with you more.

A total waste of road space. Might work if the road was wider but that is never going to happen

Great, so far from getting rid of the **** thing, the BFP campaign is likely to mean more enforcement. More ANPR, more cameras and more facial recognition no doubt.

Yes, noticed the road outside of the Wycombe Abbey School, you'd never have believed that was resurfaced last year.

So? It's currently unenforceable and potentially lethal as have been most changes in High Wycombe since BCC took over control of "traffic management". Since it appears that the only thing they in Aylesbury have ever driven is a mouse, how do they know? Let's have someone who knows how to repair roads - bet they don't have one of them.

Bring it on. Any more ANPR has to be good for High Wycombe. I can no longer afford the inflated cost of car insurance.

Drivers don't look at road markings/ don't look at the bus lane times & don't indicate anymore.
Just come along the London Road & leading the queue of traffic was a Police car in the outside lane at 15.10 Friday 03~02~12. What chance have we got?
Also why not make the RIGHT turn opposite Rayners Avenue a RIGHT TURN only & do away with the dangerous bit of road.
