    Oh My God really !! sorry I can not agree with this, why? well because the fact that the eden shopping centre has turned into a a thing that has deflatted fast than any debt crisis. In my opinion it has been a waste of tax payers money and an insult/scar in the town of High Wycombe, It is an eye sore, When it was completed I thought the town would thrive and be a great thing to this town but years on and nothing half the units in the town are either empty or closed down businesses then there has been a rumour that until ALL units have been filled with tenants then House of Fraser don't have to pay rent !!!!!
    As for the design of the building, who's idea was it ? I mean has a roof or is it not a roof ? when it rains you get wet walking through wind great feels like a car testing tunnel and then when the snow hits its like an ice rink !!!
    Then there is the choices of food seller there in a fair ground type stall on a windy day blowing smoke into all the clothing shops and basically putting people off of wanting to purchase new outfits.
    If this is what I have to do to get Honoured for great work then now I know what I have been doing wrong in my whole working career.
    What we should all be doing is doing what ever we want and sooner or later we will get recognition for how well things have been hashed up. WELL DONE FOR NOTHING. And yes this is my opinion"

Ex-council quartet get 'House of Lords equivalent'

A FORMER leader and one of the men credited with kickstarting the Eden shopping centre project were among ex-councillors awarded the 'equivalent of a peerage in the House of Lords'.

The quartet of veteran public servants received the highest accolade awarded by Wycombe District Council last night – becoming honorary aldermen.

Ex-WDC Leader Pam Priestley, David Cox, Bill Jennings and James Malcolm Blanksby, were given the title.

The first three all held the role of Chairman.

Cllr Ron Gaffney paid tribute to former teacher Mr Cox, quipping that with his pleasant and persuasive manner he “could sell sand to Arabs”.

On Bill Jennings, ex-leader Cllr Lesley Clarke said “Eden wouldn't be here without him”.

She also commended his prudent management of the council's coffers when he was finance cabinet member, adding he could lend a hand to the crisis plagued Greek government, the country where he now has a holiday home.

Cllr Bill Bendyshe-Brown said Mrs Priestley, a former German teacher, first elected in 1983, was a model councillor.

The chamber was reminded of her encounter with Princess Diana when she visited High Wycombe.

Cllr Bendyshe-Brown remarked that the alderman title was like getting a peerage in the House of Lords.

Mr Blanksby, also a former Marlow Bottom Parish Council Chairman, who served at WDC for 15 years, said he had been touched since retiring in 2010 by the number of calls and letters thanking him.
