THE HEADTEACHER of Holmer Green Senior School will be retiring in the summer after six years at his post.

David Gilbert, 59, plans to give up his position at the school in Parish Piece, Holmer Green, to focus on consultancy work.

He said: “This is in many ways a sad day for me, too.

“Holmer Green means a lot to me and I have made many good friends here. It is fantastic school and the students are brilliant, but I think the time has come for a new person to take the school forward.”

Penny Todd, chairman of the governors, said: “David has had six highly successful years at Holmer Green.

“He is an inspirational headteacher; a person whose commitment and sheer hard work has made us into one of the very best schools in the county, as was recognised by Ofsted this spring, when inspectors praised his outstanding leadership and vision.

“We are all, naturally, very sad that he will be saying goodbye to Holmer Green, but he will go with the very best wishes and thanks of everyone connected with the school.”

Mr Gilbert joined the school in 2003. Prior to this he was deputy head at Furze Platt Senior School in Furze Platt Road, Maidenhead.

The governors will begin choosing a replacement in the new year so that a new headteacher is found in time for September.
