A SAILOR from High Wycombe was named as the top recruit from the latest batch of Royal Navy trainees.
Rob Hutchings, 31, won the Owen Cup for getting the best overall marks during his nine weeks of intensive Navy training.
The trainee air engineering technician, a former publican, joined the navy in September and said he felt an “immense feeling of pride and achievement” to win the award..
Rob, who trained on the HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, said: “I joined the Royal Navy because I needed a new challenge which would give me first class training.”
He said: “I’ve enjoyed all aspects of this course, but the weapons training was my favourite.”
Rob will now continue his training at the HMS Sultan in Hampshire where he will learn maintenance and repair skills.
