Ex-officer sentenced for cancer lie

Rachel Hewitt pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to charges of fraud and misconduct in a public office
A former police officer who took time off work after falsely claiming her daughter had cancer is due to be sentenced.
Rachel Hewitt, 39, admitted fraud and misconduct in a public office.
Hewitt, of South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, claimed she had to miss work because her daughter needed chemotherapy and an operation to remove a tumour.
She pleaded guilty to the charges at Hull Crown Court during an earlier hearing and has previously been due for sentence, but the case was rescheduled.
The charges relate to the period between January 1 2009 and October 10 last year, when she was working for North Yorkshire Police.
Hewitt denied a further charge of fraud relating to a request for a career break to look after her daughter, with which the Crown agreed it would not proceed.
