A VETERAN resident at Odds Farm Park became a proud grandmother this month when the latest addition to her herd was born.
Highland heifer calf Toto made an early arrival to mum Nutmeg and grandma Kinkerbell when she came into the world at 8.45am on Wednesday, August 20.
She is now the third generation of Highland cow to be born at the farm in Wooburn Common and the first calf to devoted mum Nutmeg, who was delivered at the park in August 2005. Kinkerbell is one of the oldest residents at the farm after being born there in September 2002.
Tiny Toto is just 60 centimetres high and weighs just 50 kilogrammes - a tenth of her final adult weight - but is now out in the field for visitors to see.
Clare Middleton, livestock manager at Odds Farm, said: "Highland cows are highly regarded as devoted mothers and this is definitely the case with Nutmeg. Whilst Toto is still a bit wobbly on her feet, the pair are constantly together.
"Also grandmother Kinkerbell is never too far away to add moral support and the occasional nuzzle."
The shaggy haired bovines, which originate from the harsh Scottish Highlands, are known for their hardiness and vigour and are the oldest registered breed of cattle.
