A Beaconsfield Twinning Association book about the Free French was presented by MP Dominic Grieve to two schools in the town last week.

As part of the group’s annual general meeting, the former attorney general presented representatives of the Beaconsfield High School and Holtspur School with copies of ‘The Free French: Beaconsfield and Africa’.

The book was written by the historian Robin Pedler and was reprinted by the association to contribute to the 2014 war commemoration, alongside the refurbishment of the Free French memorial.

Following the presentation Mr Grieve spoke to about 40 residents telling them about his own English and French heritage.

There were also a number of items for the group to deal with and the night concluded with the appointment of councillor Alan Walters as Beaconsfield Twinning Association president and councillor Graham Corney as vice-president.

The group are twinned with the French commune of Langres who send flowers around the time of Remembrance Sunday every year to be placed on the war memorial.
