THE views of school children could shape the future of Beaconsfield as residents look to deliver a blueprint for the town.

The Bucks Free Press revealed in October that representatives of Beaconsfield Town Council were looking to form a group of residents to plan how the area should appear in the future.

And since these initial plans were announced a group of residents, now known as the Vision for Beaconsfield Steering Group, have begun enquiring what homeowners, businesses and school children want from the town.

A Town Plan would hopefully be in place by May 2015 in time for the latest council to be able to take the views on board and understand their opinions on future development and activities in the town.

Chairman of the Vision for Beaconsfield Steering Group, Douglas Butterfield, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for Beaconsfield.

“We have been given a chance to really consider what makes our town such a good place to live and how we can improve it even more in the future.

“We want to develop a set of recommendations that will inform and influence the organisations that are making plans here while at the same time thinking about what we as a community can do together.”

Beaconsfield is following in the footsteps of many towns across the country whose communities have come together to develop such town plans.

They say the results can be far-reaching with examples including the development of community cinemas, local artisan markets, the safeguarding of libraries and tourist information centres and the introduction of local loyalty shopping initiatives.

The project is being supported by both the town council and Buckinghamshire County Council, and will explore not only what might be done, but where resources might come from and who is best placed to deliver it.

Children will be able to share their ‘three wishes for Beaconsfield’ with the group by delivering their suggestions to the Town Hall during the Festival of Lights on Wednesday, December 10.
