A former mayor of Beaconsfield says the current blight of sewer problems in the town must be explored by developers before plans for a controversial office block are given the green light.

Town councillor Sandy Saunders, who was mayor from 2013 to 2014, has often voiced dismay against the drainage problems in Beaconsfield, which has seen a number of roads flooded in the last few years.

Most recently there were problems with Lakes Lane, Hedgerley Lane and Maxwell Road, and Cllr Saunders thinks an increase of sewer use because of the office space is a concern.

And, Cllr Saunders has now raised concerns over plans to build 10,000 square foot of office buildings and four cottages in the building.

During a meeting discussing the development plans, he said: “You [need to] fully consider the effect of the increased population of office people on the sewage and drainage into the Old Town.

“It is a cause of incredible problems at the moment, without having extra people there.

“One of the conditions, in my view, is that it must be improved before any further development can be allowed.”

In the past, Cllr Saunders has said the possible development of Wilton Park could cause sewer problems.

And, a development was also rejected in Lakes Lane last month after residents campaigned against plans - with some concerned on the over-use of the sewer system.
