Less than a week before the General Election, Wycombe District Council has been forced to apologise for a mix-up after they sent almost 100 postal voters the wrong information.

Marlow pensioner Michael Dean and his wife were left "confused" when a letter addressed to them said their application to vote by post was rejected because it was sent after a deadline of May 21, 2015.

It has now been revealed the letter was meant to give a deadline of April 21 and this incorrect date was sent out to 80 people.

WDC spokesman said: "The letter that they each received intended to tell them that their application to vote by post for the elections on May 7 had arrived after the deadline of Tuesday, April 21.

"Regrettably, a typo in the letter said that the deadline to apply to vote by post was May 21, rather than April.

"We would like to apologise to Mr and Mrs Dean for any confusion about the postal vote application deadline that this typo may have caused.

"On average, we have been sending out around 5,000 letters each week about election matters.

"Only 80 letters similar to those received by Mr and Mrs Dean have been sent out. We have not received any calls about those particular letters."

It comes after a bungled mail out in January, when WDC posted 1200 postal vote registration forms to the wrong people across the district.
