HS2 campaigners to hold day of action tomorrow HS2 campaigners to hold day of action tomorrow

A DAY of action is being carried out by campaigners protesting against HS2 tomorrow.

They will be meeting outside the Houses of Parliament and hope to speak to MPs about the controversial plans.

The day of action has deliberately been chosen as the last day MPs sit in the Commons before it breaks up for its summer recess.

It has been organised by members of the Stop HS2 campaign group and is likely to be attended by several campaigners from south Bucks.

A public rally will take place outside Parliament in Old Palace Yard from 12-2pm.

I get it that the fastest way A to B is a straight line, and I'm very pro HS2, but surely the best route is following the M40? Equally fast, goes to the same place, more visible as an alternative to the car (queuing on the motorway as the train flies by), upsets less people, less money spent on tunnels, brand new showcase terminus at Edgware Rd/Paddington Green above the A40 at the end of the flyover rather than knocking houses down around Camden to get it into Euston with an express monorail connecting you to St Pancras... nice to dream.

I'm the same as you really. But, you need to read the HS2 reports that look at this.

Basically, HS2 engineers looked at this option fully - and the M1. If you want a high speed rail system, it wont work following the M40 as the curves are too much for HS.
