Police found survival handbooks at terror suspect's home
SURVIVAL hand books and a mobile phone voice changer were among the items found by police at the home of a High Wycombe terror suspect, a court heard.
Officers carried out a search of Assad Ali Sarwar's home in Walton Drive, Totteridge, on August 10, 2006 following his arrest over an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic flights.
Sarwar is among eight men on trial at Woolwich Crown Court accused of planning to blow up several planes heading to America and Canada.
The court heard today that police found syringes, food colourings and flavourings in the kitchen and stubs for a flight ticket to Islamabad further inside the property.
As officers moved into the bedroom, they uncovered the voice changing equipment, which could be used with Nokia mobile phones.
The machine's packaging, which was shown to the jury today as part of the prosecution's evidence, described how it was "essential kit for all prank calls, anonymous calls and for winding up your mates and enemies".
A copy of the Worst Case Scenario Survival Hand Book - which explains how to escape an alligator attack and land a plane - and an SAS survival handbook were later found in a wardrobe. A charity collection tin for the Ummah Welfare Trust, a UK based Islamic fund which raises money for international aid projects, was also discovered during the search.
Richard Whittam, prosecuting, read out to the jury detailed hand written lists that were also found at the house.
One read like a to-do list and included 12 'instructions', such as 'practice batteries', 'get hold of CD charger' and ' get hold prices of phones'. Another list was entitled "cosmetics" and mentioned Lynx body spray, Brut spray and moisturising cream.
A USB computer memory stick was also found during the search, which contained more than 12,000 pictures of Canary Wharf and airports, the court heard.
All eight men are charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to endanger life on an aircraft. They all deny the charges.
The trial continues.
