Terror trial hears of police surveillance
SURVEILLANCE officers spied over the shoulder of High Wycombe bomb-plot suspect Assad Sarwar as he sent an email from an internet café, a court heard.
Sarwar, 27, of Walton Drive, Totteridge, was followed to a Slough internet café on August 6 2006 as he logged on to email accounts.
He is accused with seven other men of plotting to blow up transatlantic airlines with bombs disguised as soft drinks bottles.
advertisementToday jurors were shown surveillance footage collected by police in the days leading up to their arrest.
The court was shown video footage of him at a terminal writing an email which read hiya again, how are things? I have sent you some business files and some movies and music, you should receive them tomorrow'.
He was seen using email accounts through providers Yahoo! and Hotmail, Richard Whittam prosecuting told Woolwich Crown Court heard.
Last week the court heard that on August 3 2006 Sarwar sent a package from a post office, thought to contain DVDs, to an address in Los Angeles in the United States.
Later on August 6 Sarwar visited B&Q and Homebase stores on London Road, High Wycombe where he bought superglue, a rake and was seen examining spades and digging equipment, the court heard.
The previous day he had met with alleged plot ringleaders Ahmed Abdullah Ali and Mohammed Gulzar.
They were filmed by surveillance officers talking together outside a pizza restaurant in East London.
Sarwar took a dark coloured bag from the passenger seat of his car and gave it to Gulzar, jurors heard.
The court heard that in the week leading up the men's arrest on August 9 there was increasingly frequent contact by telephone.
All three men also made calls and sent text messages to a telephone number in Pakistan, the court was told.
On the day of his arrest Sarwar spent several hours driving between High Wycombe, Marlow, Maidenhead, Henley and Amersham making telephone calls and researching hydroponic companies, jurors were told.
He eventually went to Secret Garden Hydroponics in St Albans where he emerged with a cardboard box containing bottles.
These were later found by police inside a recycling bin at Morrison's supermarket in High Wycombe.
Sarwar then drove to Walthamstow, East London to meet Ali where he was then arrested, the court was told.
The men deny conspiracy to murder and endanger aircraft. The trial continues.
