Basketball: Towers lose in Slovenia

Union Olimpija (SLO) 73 Kinder London Towers 40

Kinder London Towers suffered yet another disappointing 73-40 Euroleague, Group B away defeat to Union Olimpija Ljubljana of Slovenia on Thursday 20 December.

An early 15-2 tear by the home side saw Towers trail 17-5 in the first quarter.

Although the arrears werereduced to six points midway through the second quarter at 29-23, Olimpija re-established a ten-point lead at half-time at 33-23.

Haris Mujezinovic top scored with 13 points for Olimpija, while Brett Eppehimer bagged 12 for Towers.

Birmingham Bullets 78 Kinder London Towers 85

All four quarter-finalists are now known in Group B of the BBL Trophy after Kinder London Towers 78-85 victory at Pertemps Bullets Birmingham on Saturday 15 December.

Towers, Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Newcastle are allnow into the last eight.

It was even for three quarters, but with Ben Walker sidelined with an ankle injury, Towers started the final period 12-2 in the first five minutes to lead 71-60. Danny Craven sparked a Bullets rally though and

with 50s left it was 77-78 to Towers. A Brett Eppehimer bucket with 28s remaining allowed Towers to finish it from the foul line.

Kinder London Towers 78 Milton Keynes Lions 85

Milton Keynes Lions confirmed their top spot finish in Pool B of the BBL Trophy with a 73-69 victory over the Kinder London Towers on Sunday, December 16.

The Lions led for the majority of the game, but the Towers came back in the final few minutes to take the score from 49-63 to 65-65 with a minute to go.

However, a Victor Payne two pointer with 51 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Lions.

* Towers will meet Southern Conference rivals, Brighton Bears, in the BBL Trophy quarter-finals in February

The quarter-finals of the BBL Trophy take place at the Skydome Arena in Coventry on Sunday 3 February 2002.

Towers have been drawn in Group F for the second round of the NEBL Open 2001/02.

Towers' group also includes fellow British club, Pertemps Bullets Birmingham, Polish side Polonia Warbud and Yambolgaz of Bulgaria
