APOLOGIES to anybody who turned up for the Barn Club and Village Hall AGMs last Wednesday. It had to be postponed, and I was alerted too late to get it into last week’s column.

The two meetings will be held next Wednesday, June 5, one after the other, starting at 8pm in the village hall.

ANTHONY Kerr, the brilliant vibraphone player, returns to Marlow Jazz Club next Tuesday, June 4. Now firmly rated as Britain’s Number One on this relatively rare instrument, he has become one of the club’s most popular guest stars. At the Royal British Legion Hall, pianist Ken McCarthy will lead the backing trio which will include the award winning bass player Dave Green. Music starts 8.30pm with admission £7.

PLANTING out may seem less than inviting while the weather remains so unusually cold, but it’s going to be just great to get on with it from next week. It’s the WI’s Spring Fayre on Thursday, June 6, and it takes place at the village hall from 2 until 4.30pm.

CARRIAGEWAY width and driver and pedestrian safety arguments still rage, without any obvious move towards a satisfactory solution. The road alongside the brewery, so obviously a hazard in the view of residents, is still disputed by highways authorities as in need of modification.

The county’s apparent stance that wide vehicles can easily intrude onto the verge or pavement to pass, and that little is likely to be done until there is personal injury, has incensed a number of people. There is also the official opinion that nothing really untoward has happened yet, so that shows that all is well. There are several valley sticklers who seem less than likely to leave it at that. Maybe the county hasn’t yet evaluated their drive and stamina.

OPEN doors characterise the regular annual Bucks Open Studios event from June 8 to 23 where some 300 artists and craft workers in the county open their studios for the public.

Although, clearly, the participants hope you will buy, there’s no obligation and leaving empty-handed is not be frowned on.

In the valley, Keith Beckett-Hester, at 144 Marlow Bottom, an accomplished painter of mainly countryside scenes, in various medium types, will invite you into a perceptive world of light and shade.

There is a free brochure which you can find in the library and from the artists or www.bucksopenstudious.org.uk Dates and times vary among the exhibitors, so check the website first.

BURFORD’S 40th anniversary celebration is fast approaching, June 29 is the day of the fete, however, there are many other things planned.

I want to draw attention to the Glitz and Glamour black tie ball in the Crowne Plaza on September 28. The event features an auction and casino to raise funds for the school’s hall extension. Tickets £55 from www.burfordschool.co.uk
