THIS photograph, taken in February 1960, shows protestors in Frogmoor, High Wycombe, taking a stand against the South African policy of apartheid.
The policy, which had been introduced in 1948, split society into groups according to the colour of their skin.
Black South Africans were forced to live in some of the worst areas, with segregated education, medical care and public services.
Protests in South Africa were met with detention without trial, brutality and torture.
It was not until 1990 that violence in South Africa and surrounding countries, coupled with economic sanctions from foreign countries, caused the system to crumble.
