Follow the Torch through Bucks

2012 Olympic Torch 2012 Olympic Torch

THE long wait is over as the Olympic Torch will finally arrive in Bisham on Tuesday.

At approximately 10.11am, the torch will be carried along Marlow Road and into Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, where some members of Team GB’s Olympic squad have been training ahead of this summer’s London Games. After 30 minutes, it will then move on to Maidenhead.

The torch also features in Burnham and Slough on Tuesday, beginning in the afternoon at 12.30.

After the torch is lit in Olympia, the Greek sanctuary known as the founding site of the Ancient Olympics, it travels around the host nation via a human-powered relay before it is used to light the cauldron in the Olympic Stadium to mark the start of the Games.

Originally the torch incorporated various aspects of Ancient Greek mythology and tradition. However, it has since been used as a positive force to celebrate achievements and involve individuals who cannot compete at the Games themselves.

The final torchbearer will light the cauldron in the Olympic Stadium on 27th July.

This honour has yet to be announced, although Marlow’s five-time Olympic gold-medallist Sir Steve Redgrave remains the favourite to open the biggest sporting event ever seen on our shores.

If you check the map, it goes in/out of some private buildings on a private road and through a private field in Bisham.

Fat chance the pubic will see it as clearly we're not invited. Figures, that's just how the SCAMlympics are run.
