Nice cinema - shame about the films

OPEN letter to: The Manager, Cineworld, Eden, High Wycombe.

I WOULD like to compliment you on your cinema in the new Eden Centre.

My daughter and I enjoyed a very successful visit to Eden and Cineworld last Wednesday - from easy parking (only £1.50 for the evening as we arrived after 6pm and a further reduction to £1 as we were visiting the cinema); no queue for the tickets which were two for the price of one as we have an eligible colour mobile phone, and a very acceptable meal in a nearby restaurant where a free glass of wine each was on offer.

I would like to take advantage of this facility on a regular basis, but the selection of films being shown means that my visits are likely to be fairly infrequent.

I was so hoping that the new cinema complex with its plethora of screens would accommodate a weekly (at least) Director's Chair' (matinee and evening) selection of films.

I was delighted to see the recently released Edge of Love' was showing at Cineworld but then hugely disappointed to find this was scheduled for afternoon emission only, which prohibited me and no doubt many others from seeing it.

A friend of mine made the journey to Eden to see this film last Thursday afternoon only to be told it was not showing that day, despite being advertised.

Fortunately, I can catch up with this film next month at the Norden Arts Centre in Maidenhead, which offers an excellent selection of less wide-appeal' and foreign' (sub-titled) films.

However, this does entail a 30 mile round trip which I would prefer not to have to make, especially since there is now such an excellent cinema much nearer to home.

I do feel this is a missed opportunity - the clientele are out there for more avant-garde and foreign films.

Given that Cineworld is often showing exactly the same films as the Empire at Cressex, this is an area of opportunity for you to reach a wider audience.

So, in the hope that you will give this some consideration.

J Williams (Mrs), Address supplied, Prestwood

May I also make a request to the cinema manager to put up a few posters advertising what is to be shown on the ground floor of the cinema area so I can decide if it's worth taking the long elevator up to the first floor. Where there is, again, very little info on what films are 'now showing'.

Empire is better value for money as the prices for tickets are cheaper and it has FREE parking!

why are people round here so motivated on price. I would rather go to cineworld which is a 5 minute walk from my house instead of travel across town to save myself a pound

Actually I was surprised to find Cineworld tickets are significantly cheaper than Empire if you go before 5pm, and I think everything's cheaper on Tuesdays too. I saw Wall-e with the kids last week in the huge screen 12 and it was superb - it's ENORMOUS! But you never know which screen you'll be in before you get there, which is annoying.
Empire parking is easier and free of course, but the coolest feature now is their 3D capacity, which I experienced with the family a few weeks back. It was stunning!
The big downside for both of them is the ridiculous food and drink prices - £8 for popcorn and a drink!
