Costa Coffee have said this week a new store set to open next door to an existing coffee shop in Great Missenden will give the village's economy a £275,000 boost.

The national chain is set to move into a disused retail unit formerly used by a Chinese restaurant in High Street - which is next door to the independently-run Coffee Approach.

Kevin Galvin, the owner of Coffee Approach, said it was a "kick in the teeth" to learn Costa planned to move in, although he said he relished the competition.

Costa are already advertising to staff and hope to employ ten people ahead of a planned opening next month.

Jerome Enskat, the business unit leader for Costa's franchise partner Kout Food Group, said: "We want to invest further in the Great Missenden area and give a new lease of life to the former Chinese restaurant on the High Street, as well as more choice for shoppers looking for a quality coffee.

"If our planning application is approved, a new Costa would also create ten jobs and deliver approximately £275,000 of investment locally. We believe it would be a positive addition to the High Street and a suitable option for a unit that has been standing empty for the past 24 months."

The company has applied to Chiltern District Council for permission to alter the signage to the vacate retail unit. They do not need to apply for a change of use for the property.
