Four generations of the same family are preparing to head to the Alps for a charity tribute with a difference.

The Childs family will be trekking up a mountain in Austria to raise money for charity in tribute to Prestwood resident Mandy Childs, who died from Motor Neurone Disease last year at the age of 58.

The oldest members of the family, who are in their mid 80s, won't be pulling on their hiking boots to reach the summit - but eight-month-old Olivia will be among the party trying to get to the top.

Once the Childs reach the summit of Schmittenhoe they will be planting a flag for the Rennie Grove Hospice Care charity, who the family are raising money for.

Mandy's husband Tony said: "As a family we've been to Austria quite a lot. My wife was very fond of Austria and we wanted to have a good memorial event for her somewhere she was fond of. We thought this was quite a novel approach.

"My parents are in their 80s but they aren't going up the mountain - they will be there for moral support."

The family will be heading out to Austria on May 23 and the climb will take place a few days later, depending on the weather.
