There was one vote in it as coffee company Costa were given permission to open a branch in Great Missenden.

The retail giant took over a vacant shop in the village – which is next door to another coffee shop, Coffee Approach – earlier this year.

The firm had to apply to Chiltern District Council for permission to erect company signage up around the front, and the application was called in by members of the authority’s planning committee.

Although permission for the application was given approval at the committee’s meeting on Thursday night, there was only one vote in it.

It means Costa can now begin work on the unit, in High Street, which was formerly used as a Chinese restaurant.

Jerome Enskat, business unit leader for Costa’s partner Kout Food Group, said: “We are delighted with the council’s decision – as well as breathing new life into the former Chinese restaurant, the new Costa will deliver ten new jobs and fresh investment for the local area, as well as boosting footfall on the High Street.

“With this consent we will get to work on the new Costa as soon as possible and look forward to opening our doors to our customers later in the summer.”
