A doctors surgery in Prestwood has been given the rare honour of being awarded an 'outstanding' rating by an industry body.

The Care Quality Commission gave the rating to John Hampden Surgery - which looks after more than 3,300 patients - following their January inspection.

Dr Rebecca Mallard Smith, Senior Partner and GP at John Hampden Surgery, said: “It is really heartening to see the work we have done in areas such as improving support for carers and becoming dementia friendly being recognised in this way.

"We are committed to ensuring the primary care service we provide is of the best possible quality and will continue to work hard for the benefit of our patients.

"We are very pleased to receive this outstanding rating from CQC and would like to thank our staff and patients for their continued help and support."

The practice was awarded ‘dementia friendly’ status in February last year and was commended for their work in improving patients quality of life and prolonging independent living.

Jan Fowler, Nursing Director for NHS England South, said: “This outstanding rating is a great achievement for staff at John Hampden Surgery.

"The practice was found to have a clear vision with quality and safety as the top priority and their strategy to deliver this was regularly reviewed with staff.

"Outcomes for patients were found to be consistently good with staff supporting patients using a targeted and proactive approach to health promotion."
