The newborn baby photography business is booming with some Buckinghamshire-based companies taking up the opportunity to capture the first few days of a young child’s life – but safety must come first.

For many it may sound like a simple task to take pictures of a baby, but for these photographers it is an art, and something which requires strenuous training, dedication and plenty of patience.

Lavender and Sage Photography, formerly known as Lil Monsters Photography, is based in the Chilterns and their team regularly works with families from the south of the county to ensure the baby photo-opportunity is picture perfect, while maintaining a safe environment.

Melanie and Sam lead the picture sessions and say safety has to be put first.

They said: “We are a team of two mummies, with five children between us and a real passion for art and photography.

“We believe in the importance of capturing those very first precious moments of the life of the newest member of your family, because believe us they grow up far too quickly.

“A session with us is very relaxed for both the parents and baby and it’s totally baby lead.

“As important as it is to capture those cute, squishy images, safety comes first, always. We are proud members of BANPAS (Baby and Newborn Photography Association) an organisation who advocate safety when photographing newborns.”

On the BANPAS website they say: “The association promotes safe working practices and we are dedicated to ensuring your baby's comfort and safety takes priority whilst our members create beautiful images for you to treasure.”

According to the organisations codes of conduct the safety of babies must be put first at all time while also maintaining professional standards.

While following the various safety procedures, Lavender and Sage Photography, amongst others, work with families to get the perfect picture.
