A charity held its final meeting after achieving its original mission of saving a day care centre from closure.

Risboro Cares was formed in 1998 after the Princes Centre, a day care facility in Clifford Road, was threatened with closure by Bucks County Council.

Chris Kingham, acting chairman of Risboro Cares, said: “The intention of the charity was to save it from closure and we feel we have finally achieved that.

“It’s the end of an era but it’s wonderful that the Princes Centre can continue its work without us.

“As trustees, we’re all very proud of the centre and how far it has come.

Mr Kingham paid tribute to his late father, Tom Kingham and Peter Robinson, who passed away last year; who he describes as the “driving force” behind the charity.

He said: “We owe it to my late father, Tom Kingham and the late Peter Robinson for their tireless work with Risboro Cares in the beginning. We couldn’t have done this without them.”

The charity held its final AGM this month and the trustees celebrated the success with a cake with the words ‘mission accomplished’ iced onto it.

Craig Robinson, the son of the late Peter Robinson, cut the commemorative cake.

Maggie Wooster Keyte, trustee of the Princes Centre said: “The trustees would like to extend a huge thank you to all the people and local organisations who contributed to this charity over the years.

“As a result of their generosity the trustees were able to channel many thousands of pounds to help the Day Centre keep functioning over the last 15 years.”
